Apparently the big write up I did of this for yesterday didn't show up, nor can I find it. Maybe I just dreamed I did it. Anyhow, this is just going to be a quick recap of what happened in our 13th session of the Greymoore game.
Cast
Liam Callahan - a 17 year old human farm boy who constantly has his head in the clouds (you guessed it. The Hero!). Liam hails from the "Road's End Villages" the far North Western section of the Kingdom of Cerimea, not that anyone particularly remembers that that is still a part of the country. Liam has since aged to 20 years old and is taking the first steps towards facing his destiny.
Ilian Holhan - A 19 year old apprentice mage Seraphim who has come down to the surface (accompanied by his mentor and master) to further his studies on the weather as well as several other studies for his magical pursuits.. The Seraphim are a race of winged scholars and magi who live high above the clouds.
Abar Dan Rab Beynonn - A 19 year old Azrian Sword Dancer. The Azrian are a tribe of humans that live in cities in the forests (think Sherwood from Robin Hood Prince of Thieves), they are some of the premiere sword fighters in the land, using a style that emphasizes grace and finesse over power.
Darcy Stanton - A Half-Elf Rogue who has been staying with Rab (Abar) among the Azrian for the last few years. She is as close as a sister to Rab, and helps him on the various jobs he undertakes for the Azrian. Despite her time with the Azrian though, Darcy prefers to fight with her knives rather than use a sword.
Genru Crabshall - A Dwarven caravan guard from the Dwarf's War Caste. Genru hails from the famed floating cities of the Dwarves, though it has been years since he has seen home. Assigned to a guard a caravan heading to the northern provinces of Cerimea.
Ornu Tana Dar - An experienced Elven Woodsman, Ornu is specifically trained to be able to counter rogues, spies, and assassins, and also in taking out larger groups of opponents as quickly and efficiently possible. One year ago (beginning of the game) he was sent to retrieve Darcy back to the Kingdom so that officials could speak to her on matters of some importance to the Elven kingdom.
The Session
Picking up from where we left off last time, the party climbed aboard a submarine with 20 Dwarven marines. The leader of the marines is a dwarf named Sarl, a likeable fellow if not particularly considerate of the anxieties of others. Ilian has a hard time on the trip due to his claustrophobia, he panics several times saying the water pressure will kill everyone aboard, to which the dwarves respond there is more threat from the dragon fish if the submarine breaks than anything else. This does not really reassure anyone.
In transit to the sunken city of Oldritch, Grenru once again begins glowing. As does something outside of the submarine. With a flash of light, Grenru vanished. The dwarves think this is strange, the party find it "makes sense" to them at the very least. They all decide to continue onwards and do the mission. They can find Grenru later, as currently the prophecy is at work. (I am confused as the GM what prophecy they mean, but oh well :D )
Once in the city the party finds there are no dwarves (all evacuated or dead) but it is occupied by the blue skinned folks from earlier. They stealthily make their way to the center of the city, partway above ground, and partway by going beneath the city and actually climbing under the city and under the water. Two dwarves are lost during the under water transit, victims of a sea serpent which Ilian wounds to ward it away on a following jaunt underwater.
The last block into the central building of oldritch needs to be made on foot though. The dwarves form a wedge with the PCs in the center. They'll fight their way into the lobby, then the PCs will head down to get the shield for Liam while the dwarves hold the doorway. Everyone is ready and the charge is on. The dwarves lose 4 more making it to the lobby, but they make it and in short order the party has secured the entrance. Ilian magics up a wall to help the dwarves defend the lobby with before everyone heads in and down.
Liam seems to know the way, leading down passageways and stairs, through doorways and halls until they come to a secured door. Darcy says she can pick the lock when Ornu hears a hissing sound. Everyone looks up to see a two headed spider, the spider isn't happy with intruders and drops down to attack the PCs. Ornu, Rab, and Liam fend it off while Ilian prepares a magic spell and makes a wall of diamond between them and the spider. Darcy gets the door unlocked, and everyone heads through (locking the door behind them).
Down some stairs they find they are in a cathedral of some sort. The back wall is a carving of various dragons fighting each other. Ilian lights the various torches and incense which fills the room with a bit of a smokey light. In the smoke 12 of the Dragon heads on the murals look like the lines around them are bolder. Ilian feels drawn to one of them and presses the head which sinks into the wall. Several mechanical clunks are heard, along with various clicks and the sound of stone sliding along stone before a doorway opens in the mural. Whenever anyone but LIam tries to go through they get shocked, but Liam can pass unmolested. Through the door he finds the shield, which he takes. Behind the shield lies a medallion, a large hunk of heavy and dense metal, and a scroll. Liam takes those as well.
In the Cathedral Ilian translates the scroll (it is in ancient dwarven). The metal, they decide, goes to Grenru to make his armor out of. The medallion should help them find the Seraphim cities in the skies. They divvy everything up and head back out. Once back out of the building though they are confronted by a dragon and two riders. The blue skinned people seem as worried about the dragon as they are, something the party tries to use to their advantage.
While Darcy and Rab distract/fight the two riders, Ilian, Liam, and Ornu play a deadly game of cat and mouse with the dragon while trying to get it to use its breathweapon in a way that will also hurt the blue skinned (the PCs are referring to them as merfolk). The plan begins to work when the Dragon decides it has had enough of Ilian firing crossbow quarrels at him and begins to give chase. Ilian flies throughout the city, narrowly avoiding buildings and being eaten while Ornu tries to line up a shot. Liam, for his part, forgets the plan and goes to climb a building wanting to get onto the dragon. He gets his wish when Ilian brings the dragon back around, managing to climb on and stay on. His sword seems to be incredibly effective when it plunges into the Dragon's flank twice and takes the dragon out of the air.
A bit of bad decision making however gets Liam mauled by the Dragon (whom he had turned his back on for some reason) and out of the fight. Luckily, Rab has fought one rider to a stand still, and Darcy killed the other. Seeing he is out numbered the surviving rider blows on a whistle making both him and the dragon vanish.
Ilian, the dwarves, and the PCs spend the rest of the day using trickery and illusion to continue to rush the 'merfolk' out of the city and reclaim it for the dwarves. Where the session ends, with the PCs standing triumphant.
