As I said on Monday, this week marks the 4th birthday of Reality Refracted. As such, I thought it would be a good idea to do a state of the blog to let you guys know what was going on with me and where, at least right now, I see this blog going.
Staying System Unspecific
Every time I've asked you guys have said you like the more generic nature of advice. I'm not givng tricks on how to make a specific system work to do something, but tricks, tips, and advice for how to get your game to be the best that it can be. I like that, and I am going to stick with that.
At present I am involved in 2 FATE games (Dresden Files and a Fate Core game), two L5R games, a home-mod R&K game (the system powering L5R), and a Shadowrun game that is on hiatus.
One, or more, of these games may vanish without further notice. The ones presently in the most danger as the Dresden Files game and my Shadowrun game, simply because both are currently on hiatus. If one of those goes I'm not sure what would take their place but Savage Worlds (the system, not necessarily the core game,) and Mutants and Masterminds are both high on the list of potential replacement games.
Why does this matter? Because the games I'm in are the big factor in what problems, challenges, and situations I come across in games. Currently, challenges I run into are likely to involve those systems. If one game changes, that could change the problems.
Posting Schedule
For now I think I want to stay at 3 days a week update schedule. It helps take some of the pressure off of me, and with work lately being randomly crazy it should help reduce the number of missed days. I'm not forswearing 5 day weeks, but for now - at leas tuntil I get fully into the swing for the new year - I'm going to try to keep to 3 main updates a week. Hopefully that will work out well for everyone involved.
Guest Posting
The link is still up there for guest articles. I am still open to folks posting guest articles. If you want to, please do. Sean Phelan and Atraties have both posted a couple of times with that. By all means, don't be afraid to get involved if you'd like to.
News And Media Updates
One thing I would like to do is provide some more news on the gaming scene and up coming games. I've been getting press releases from a couple of places lately and I like that. I don't want to keep spamming you guys with every bit of news regarding one game. This may be a bit harder to pull off, as it will take more time to investigate, but it is something I would like to do.
How About You?
Is there anything you'd like to see from this blog for the coming year? Any threads or series you'd like to see more updates to? Sound off in the comments and let me know.
I like hearing about new interesting things coming out.
ReplyDeleteI never tire of posts about timeless topics.
Speaking of which, I've long thought you should consider doing something with your past posts. In their current format I think they, most unfortunately, sit there dormant. Four years of RPG wisdom not really easily accessible. Index? Oh yaaaa....
What about if you did a series where you looked through your years of past posts, picked out an interesting one & used it as a catalyst for your current thoughts on the subject? Maybe you find two posts on the same topic (you have 4 years of posts afterall) and then update it?
What about going through the different RPG games you've played over the last 3-5 years & giving us your comparative thoughts about them? I think talking about specific systems can be very interesting if in a limited format like that.
Btw, what is the frequency of your different campaign's sessions? Curious.
give me brave frontier cheats and i would give you the secrets of the games online.
