First, I apologize for this post going up today and not yesterday like it should have. I think in the confusion I forgot to post it would happen, but all my free time this past week has gone into cramming for an industry certification test I need for work.
That out of the way, today I want to know what your favorite character goal ever has been. Was it a character you played? Was it a character in a game you ran? Maybe an NPC? Maybe a friend's character? Either way, what character goal really made you stand up and take notice?
For me, I think my favorite character goal was in a friend's character in a superhero game. The goal was simple, he wanted to stay normal. The character did everything he could to avoid getting powers regardless of the crazy stuff the GM was throwing into the game. It was important to him that his character remain just a person, and when I say that I mean him as in the character, not the player.
This led to some great defining moments where the character had to find other ways around problems and had a much harder time staying relevant in some fights because of their choice. In the end, them clinging to being a normal human defined the character and in a lot of ways defined the game. It made for a good time, at the very least.
What about you? What was your favorite goal?
Well, as a GM, I was most amused when my players turned from the obvious plot to . . . build a bridge. Yes, really, It all worked out but it was surprising at the time.
ReplyDeleteI like lot of my character goals, but building a political organization to size control of a city-state was one of the more interesting.
Spider really wanted a bucket. It was the last thing she needed for her live-in-the-woods. The Yasuki was so confused when he pinged her "What do you want most in the world" and got "A bucket." Not a long term character goal, but probably my favorite.
