On Monday I talked about using players to run bad guys and what that could mean for your game. Today I'm curious if folks have done this, and if so how did it work out. Did the villain do well? Are they fondly remembered by the PCs? Did they win? Did it all end in tears?
There are lots of ways it could go. So how did it play out?
I've done it twice once when I had the BBEG raise a player that was out right killed in combat and another when the party split. In the first instance it went really well every got a kick out of the fight. The BBEG ended up being a lame duck, but the PC was surprisingly effective despite how ineffective they had been during the rest of the campaign. In the second case, the party split and I handed a NPC thug to the player without a PC present. I had two players complain because I wouldn't let them coup de grace a down PC despite telling them beforehand that they would keep the PC alive. It turned out to be a really unpleasant experience.
