Do you prefer Urban games or Rural games? Both are fine, but I'm curious if you have a preference. Fantasy games like D&D and Pathfinder, and even ones like L5R, tend to be more rural with a lot of what is going on. It's easier to have monsters just show up in the country side, not to mention that by traveling to the ass end of nowhere it makes more sense to run into dangers.
Modern games, or future games, often happen in cities. Threats tend to be other people. There is also more room for political intrigue.
Nothing says you can't have a City game in a Fantasy game though. Nor that you can't bring your Shadowrun team out to the boonies.
Still, I find most players tend to prefer one or the other.
Personally, I don't mind rural games, but I think I like urban ones. Games set in a single city have a lot of benefits and obstacles I like. You get recurring scenes, which lets PCs build relationships with what is going on and what is around. You also have more chance for social consequences if the PCs are trying to murder hobo around.
How about you?
